Pinching and Coiling - 12.10.23

Experimental Statements

Hand building brief- using a pinching technique I created three vessel forms of a similar size and shape. It was quite challenging to ensure they were the same size! I left them to dry out as I quite liked the cracked effect. If I was going to use this technique I would spend more time making sure the sides were thiner .

To create a straight sided form with a flat base I used coils building up and blending to about 12 cms in height. I really liked the texture that the blending created inside the vessel.

Using the ‘upside down’ techniqueI tried to produce a form thatbwas closed at the top but didn’t manage to make an entirely closed form ! but will definitely try this again in the future.

Conclusion

I liked the forms that can be created with coils so they can be attached in different unconventional ways.It would be interesting to add decorative attachments to make the form functional and decorative.Coiling into a mould is something I intend to explore further.
